​​​​Leading Better Value Care (LBVC) is one of the programs that is accelerating value based healthcare in NSW. It involves clinicians, networks and organisations working together on high-impact initiatives to improve outcomes and experiences for people with specific conditions.

The clinical initiatives

NSW Health has identified and scaled 13 evidence-based models or standards of care.

The first eight initiatives were selected for Tranche One in 2016 and implementation started in 2017-18. They are:

Osteoarthritis chronic care program Osteoporosis re-fracture prevention Chronic heart failure Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Diabetes mellitus Diabetes high risk foot services Falls in hospital Renal supportive care

In 2017 local health districts nominated five more initiatives which are being implemented from 2019-20:

Hip fracture care wound management Bronchiolitis Hypofractionated radiotherapy for breast cancer direct access colonoscopy

There is at least one Leading Better Value Care initiative in more than 100 NSW Health facilities.

Leading Better Value Care is a collaboration between the NSW Ministry of Health, Agency for Clinical Innovation, Clinical Excellence Commission and Cancer Institute NSW and local health districts and networks.
