Mosquitoes can transmit serious diseases.

To protect against mosquitoes and reduce the risk of diseases they transmit:

  • wear loose-fitting long sleeved shirts and long pants
  • apply mosquito repellent to exposed skin
  • screen windows and doors and remove potential mosquito breeding sites at home

Japanese encephalitis

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a rare but serious disease caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV).

It is spread to humans by infected mosquitoes.
